Initial Challenge

Assessing soft skills beyond resumes

eFM wanted to attract, assess, and hire STEM graduates compatible with their business needs in terms of technical skills, soft skills, and values, enhancing the employer brand and reducing time-to-hire.

Initial Challenge: Assessing soft skills beyond resumes

Strategy

A co-design workshop to foster collaboration among candidates

Together with eFM, we created an innovative recruiting format where design highlights candidates' soft skills beyond the technical competencies in their resumes. With eFM's HR team, we defined a specific assessment grid for soft skills, used during the event to evaluate candidate behavior in group dynamics.

Strategy: A co-design workshop to foster collaboration among candidates

Result

15 candidates involved, 5 hired in a single day

Amploom supported eFM's HR team in candidate assessment, ensuring objectivity through the rotation of HR staff among groups. This led to the hiring of 5 out of 15 people, optimizing selection in terms of both quantity and quality.

Initial Challenge: Assessing soft skills beyond resumes

Candidate Experience Hub is an experiential and collaborative career day format that views design as a foundational and strategic component.

The project arose from a challenge by our client eFM: to attract young STEM candidates, assess, select, and hire them according to business needs, while verifying their compatibility in terms of technical skills, soft skills, and values with eFM’s culture. The ultimate goal was to reduce time-to-hire.

Strategy: A co-design workshop to foster collaboration among candidates

To implement the day, we collaborated with the HR department to promote the recruiting event and encourage applications from STEM candidates. The applications received were screened, and individuals were interviewed before the event. During the event, the selected shortlist of candidates was divided into groups that worked together on challenges related to eFM’s core business. To do this, as designers and facilitators, we provided them with theoretical concepts and practical tools from the Design Thinking methodology to tackle the project. At the end of the day, the groups presented their solutions to a panel from eFM management.

Following the event, Amploom assisted eFM’s HR team in assessment and selection, providing feedback from a design perspective on the candidates present at the recruiting event. To increase assessment objectivity, the HR staff at the event rotated among the various groups to ensure each candidate was observed by more than one evaluator.
Regarding results, Candidate Experience Hub allowed eFM to hire 5 out of the 15 people present at the event, optimizing selection both in terms of quantity (more hires in less time) and quality. In person, it was possible to observe both the interpersonal skills of the candidates and their cultural fit with the company, reducing turnover in the long term.
